As the chapter opens, Edwin and Kit are in the library looking for information regarding Edwin’s regression. They discovered Sequence in the Loop while looking for answers in the book. William Day wrote a total of ten letters included in the book. It indicated Edwin’s regression. When Edwin initially started reading it, the book contained every letter in the author’s name; however, the author’s name was eliminated after the tenth regression.
Nevertheless, the book had no names in it after Edwin’s ninth regression and Kit’s first regression, indicating that there were no more regressions left for them. It couldn’t be a coincidence or an unusual event, Kit informed Edwin. When she realized that Edwin wouldn’t regress the next time he died, she began to lose her cool. Edwin warned her that if they continued as they were, he would eventually perish.
Kit reminded him that he had stated he didn’t want to die, thus he needed to come up with a solution. When Kit questioned Edwin about whether the tailor had killed her, he replied that it hadn’t. Even with the testimony, the court discharged the tailor when the case went to court. A commoner with those kinds of powers was set free because someone else was really responsible for everything. A mastermind with influence over the judiciary could have been responsible for Kit’s death. They continued aiming for Edwin when all of a sudden Kit perished in place of Edwin.
After deviating from the initial plan, they found it difficult to explain everything, and several indications during the trial suggested that they were destroying the evidence. The man with enough clout in the judiciary gave Lonnie the order to murder Edwin. The individual who gave the order to kill Edwin had changed each time, but the genius behind his killing remained the same. After Kit died, Edwin accused everyone in his immediate vicinity, including Richard.
Being around Richard more often than his parents since they were little meant that Edwin understood everything there was to know about him. Additionally, Richard attempted to console Edwin after Kit passed away, and Edwin noticed the emotion on Richard’s face.
